While somes celebrities try to make smoking cigars glamourous, smoking them can be deadly. Here's an example of just how deadly they can be.

Most people don’t know how Sigmund Freud, the "father" of psychoanalysis, really died. Freud smoked cigars for most of his life; even after having his jaw removed due to malignancy, he continued to smoke until his death on September 23, 1939. He smoked an entire box of cigars daily. After contracting cancer of the mouth in 1923 at the age of 67, he underwent over 30 operations to treat the disease. In the end, Freud could no longer tolerate the excruciating pain associated with his cancer (which had destroyed the roof of his mouth, and extended into his nasal cavity --- in layman’s terms, “the tumor ate through the roof of his mouth and filled part of his nose”). He requested that his personal physician visit him at his London home. Freud's death was by a physician-assisted morphine overdose.
